Baby Dedication Sunday

This Sunday, September 1, 2024, will be Dedication Sunday. This is a sacred and honored day in which families bring their little ones to the Lord to be dedicated unto the Lord. This tradition goes back to Joseph and Mary, when they brought Jesus to be dedicated to the Lord at the temple in Jerusalem.

[Luk 2:22-23 NET] 22 Now when the time came for their purification according to the law of Moses, Joseph and Mary brought Jesus up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord 23 (just as it is written in the law of the Lord, “Every firstborn male will be set apart to the Lord”),

We even find this tradition going back to Hannah in 1 Samuel 1:28, when she brought her first born son, Samuel, to the Lord and dedicated him for the Lords use. This sacred duty of bringing our children before the Lord and committing before them and the body of Christ to raise them in the fear and admonition of the Lord can be found in Gods decrees to His people in Deuteronomy 6:6-7 (NIV emphasis mine): “These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.” The Apostle Paul reiterated this to the New Testament church when told the Ephesians to “bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.”

Jesus considered children to be infinitely precious, and in Mark 10:14 (NIV) said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” The Psalmist rightfully declared that “children are a heritage from the Lord (psalm 127:3). Therefore, This September 1st 2024, we will bring our newest children to the Lord and dedicate them for Gods use and glory and pray over them a hedge, beauty, purpose, and blessing.
