When we go to Sunday church, it ought to be for the purpose of being refilled for ministry service. Yet, if our vessel is not prepared to be poured into, it does not matter how great Sunday church is, how awesome the sermon, or how charismatic the worship, we will not be as filled up as we could’ve been. The Lord will not pour out his healing oil into broken jars, nor his cleansing water into dirty pitchers, nor his precious wine into unusable containers. To receive the most, we need to prepare ourselves before we even arrive.
The greatest preparation tool is prayer. To pray for the service you are about to attend is a sound way to prepare yourselves and build up the church in synchronicity. Using the story of Moses and the burning bush in Exodus 3, below are 8 areas of prayer for a Sunday church service.
Pray each in order and in the Spirit as you allow the Lord to so move you before each and every Sunday service.
1. GROUNDS/SPACES/PEOPLE
“Lord, make GHCOG holy ground for your will and way to be done, sanctify every space and room by your Spirit for your glory to fall upon the humble that shall enter here.”
2. ATMOSPHERE/SANCTUARY
“Lord, let your fire lighten the atmosphere of this service; as the fire of your presence burned brightly on mount Sinai, may the fire of your Spirit fill the sanctuary today.”
3. SURRENDER/AFFIRMATION
“In this service today, consume us Lord with your fire, stoke the fire within your people and fan us into flames by your Holy Spirit. As you used Moses to lead, so use me as I surrender to your purpose and passion.”
4. STRENGTH/EMPOWERMENT
Lord, as the bush was on fire but not burning, strengthen every worker that is ministering in today’s service; may they not get burned out even as they loose the fire within them.
5. WORSHIP/PREACHING
Lord, speak to us through fire in this service. May your messenger be on fire with your Word, let that word be like a fire shut up in their bones which they cannot keep in, but speak it with authority, power, and grace.
6. ALTAR CALL/COMMITMENTS
Lord, let this service today draw your people in to your holy presence. As you used the burning bush to get Moses’ attention and draw him in, so use this service to draw us closer to you as you draw nigh unto us.
7. ALTAR CALL/SALVATIONS
In this service, Lord, draw us back to repentance. May your people remove anything causing separation from you, even as Moses took off his sandals. May the altars be filled as people come forward in penitence.
8. ALTAR CALL/VICTORY
Today, fulfill your promises of freedom, liberty, and hope. From this service, lead us onward to the good land, to the place, posture and position of your blessings and goodness.
As you pray before Sunday church, you will be building up yourself in the most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost.
